Super Lawyers is a rating service of the top lawyers from over 70 practice areas who are successful in the courtroom and have earned glowing peer recognition. The Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of each state’s attorneys who are either 40 years old or younger or have been in practice for ten (10) years or less.
The selection process consists of the following steps:
- Nominations – Attorneys from each state nominate the best lawyers they have personally seen in action. The research team at Super Lawyers then search for attorneys who have achieved certain outcomes and honors, as well as those with a high degree of peer recognition.
- Independent Research – The research department assesses each nominated attorney based on several indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition, such as experience, awards/honors, verdicts/settlements, education and employment backgrounds, professional standing among other legal organizations, community service and pro bono work, etc.
- Peer Evaluation – The third step is known as the “blue ribbon review,” which involves peer evaluation by practice area. The candidates in each practice area with the high point totals from the following two steps will serve on a blue ribbon panel and rate candidates from their practice areas.
- Final Selection – In the end, only 2.5 percent of lawyers in each state are named to the list.
